Yesterday, the City Council of the City of Sarajevo will discuss information on the activities undertaken to protect the Sarajevo cevap as an autochthonous domestic product.
As stated, there are all prerequisites to start the process leading to registration for obtaining protection of geographical origin at the level of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) and the European Union (EU).
The goal is to protect and promote the most famous Sarajevo brand.
For this purpose, the association of Sarajevo cevapi makers has already been established, because only as such can be a formal applicant.
The procedure for registering marks of origin, marks of geographical origin, and marks of guaranteed traditional specialty is initiated by a request submitted to the BiH Food Safety Agency.
Protection, as stated, contributes to a higher market value of the product that corresponds to its special properties and acquired reputation.
The protection prevents abuse or unauthorized use of the geographical indication by other persons.
