The Prime Minister of the Canton Sarajevo (CS), Edin Forto, the Minister of Transport, Adnan Steta, the Minister of the Internal Affairs Admir Katica, and the Commissioner of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Nusret Selimovic, said that they would raise traffic safety in the CS to a higher level.

Several conclusions were reached regarding traffic, video surveillance in public transport, in areas around schools and at stops, reducing the maximum speed of vehicles in school zones, as well as setting up more radars.

The conclusions define the need for more efficient control and supervision of public transport, stricter punishment of violators of traffic obligations, and intensification of activities to strengthen alternative modes of transport.

A working group is being formed, which will work exclusively on topics related to traffic safety, and which consists of all competent institutions.

”The focus of our Ministry, in addition to infrastructure projects, is traffic safety, with special emphasis on child safety. For this reason, we have strengthened cooperation with Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) Automobile and Motorcycle Club (BIHAMK) and the Parents’ Council and started implementing numerous short-term and long-term projects that will improve the current situation,” Minister Steta stated.

Protective fences will be installed on all roads under the jurisdiction of the Directorate for Roads of CS and the renewal of horizontal and vertical signalization, primarily in the areas around schools, will be continued.

Minister Katica emphasized that the police will continue to carry out intensified activities in traffic, in a way that will include all organizational units of the Police Administration, which will include the engagement of the Special Unit.

Educational approaches from the earliest age and raising the awareness of all traffic participants are ways that should not be neglected, and which can certainly lead to a different picture and solve problems, so the CS Government and line ministries together with partners will increase the number of educational projects.
