It may sound unbelievable to many, but one Sarajevo elementary school has only two students in its class. Anel Milak and Omar Comor are the only ninth–grade students at the Sip Elementary School.

The elementary school in Sip was opened on November 1st, 2021, and currently, only 90 students attend it. That is a very small number compared to other Sarajevo primary schools, which have several hundred enrolled students.

Since the school in Sip started working in the middle of the school year, it also affected the number of students. From this school, they hope that the number of students will be higher than the next school year.

Reporters visited this Sarajevo school to meet the boys who are in the ninth grade. Upon arriving at the school, they met Anel and Omar and had a relaxed conversation as they prepared for math class.

One of the two students in the ninth grade – Anel, points out that he managed quickly in the new school and that he does not miss large classes.

“I thought it would be pretty boring, but it’s better than I expected. I thought the classes would be empty, desolate. However, we make up for that with intensive work, and we finish studying very quickly,” he said.

Omar Comor also quickly got used to the new school, although he had many more friends in the old one. Now there are two of them, but they also hang out with students from other classes during the break.

“There are only two of us in the class, which is a completely different atmosphere. Although we didn’t know each other before coming to this school, we quickly became good friends,” he noted.

Mathematics teacher Senada Zahiragic pointed out that this was the first time she had met a class with only two students.

“I have been working at this school since the beginning of February. This is the first time I have met a class with only two students. I used to work in some Sarajevo schools, but there are classes with more students in each. Since this is a new school, the classes are we are smaller, but it is easier to work when there are fewer students in the class. We can dedicate more to students and do more tasks,” she said.
