The first B&H supplementary school in London marked the two decades of work, during which more than 200 students attended classes.
‘’Today the schools has 30 students, although this is a small percentage in comparison to the number of B&H citizens who live in Great Britain. In time, the ethnic makeup of our students has changed, and in addition to children from B&H, we also had children with heritage from Montenegro, Macedonia, Pakistan, Cyprus, England, Spanish, and of which we are especially proud’’, said to Fena teacher Samira Jakupović, who has been working at the school for 18 years. She recalled that the school was formed 20 years ago at the initiative of B&H citizens who were forced to leave B&H due to the war.
‘’Parents who have children of schools age were aware of the importance of nurturing the mother tongue in foreign countries, and how important it is for children to have love for their own culture, heritage and identity’’, said teacher Jakupović.
The official marking of the 20 years of work of the remedial schools, which was held in the Abbey Center Hall in the prestigious London municipality Westminster was attended by the Ambassador of B&H to Great Britain Mustafa Mujezinović. The London Remedial School works under the sponsorship of the B&H Community UK, voluntary involvement of individuals and small funds of Great Britain and donations from parents.
