Exhibition at the Historical Archive of Sarajevo “Urban Development of Sarajevo Through History” by archivist Velida Jerlagic, and exhibition of the Sarajevo Museum “Models of Sarajevo” from the museum’s collection were opened yesterday on the occasion of Independence Day of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) in Brusa bezistan.

The exhibition “Urban development of Sarajevo through history” through the author’s maps, as well as maps and plans from the museum collection “Collection of Maps and Plans” of Historical Archive of Sarajevo, shows the spatial development of Sarajevo from the oldest time, through the antique, Middle Ages, the Ottoman and Austro-Hungarian periods, until modern times.

“We want to show the continuity of living and habitation in the Sarajevo territory, from the Stone Age, Butmir’s culture, until the modern times, for which we also consider the period when BiH and Sarajevo were part of the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes (in Bosnian: SHS),” Jerlagic stated.

The exhibition is divided into boards that are chronologically arranged, first referring to the Neolithic period, then the Illyrians period, the Roman Age, the Middle Ages, the Ottoman and the Austro-Hungarian period.

As Jerlagic said, the maps show the places where settlements from certain time periods were placed, while new maps were made for the Middle Ages and the Ottoman period, according to the written sources and the data obtained from Vakufnama Gazi Isa-beg Isakovic.

The director of Historical Archive of Sarajevo, Fuad Ohranovic, emphasized that the exhibition was organized on the occasion of the Independence Day of BiH, and that in this way they wanted to contribute to celebrating the most significant day for BiH.
