The United States Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina has issued a statement regarding the decision of the President of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, to sign decrees promulgating a law prohibiting the work of state institutions in this entity.

“The United States is determined to promote our interests in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Our commitment to the Dayton Peace Agreement and a stable and secure Bosnia and Herzegovina that has lasted for thirty years is unwavering,” the US embassy said in a message.

They added that they were “deeply concerned about last night’s signing of anti-constitutional and anti-Dayton laws” passed by the RS National Assembly.

“Let’s be clear – this is a deliberate provocation of the constitutional order of Bosnia and Herzegovina and represents a direct threat to the stability and security of BiH and the strategic goals of the United States,” the US Embassy said.

They also had messages for the leadership of the Bosnian entity of RS.

“To all political leaders, especially those behind these decisions, we say this: Refrain from engaging in further destabilization and inflammatory rhetoric. Engage in constructive and responsible political dialogue. Support BiH’s democratic institutions and enforce the rule of law. And do what you can to reduce political tensions. The citizens you serve deserve no less,” they said.

Finally, the US Embassy added that it “firmly supports the sovereignty and territorial integrity of BiH and its path toward full integration into the Euro-Atlantic community of nations.”
