U.S. Embassy Press Statement regarding Mr.Dodik’s Case

Published: December 27, 2016

embassyIn a demonstration of continued U.S. commitment to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and to strengthening democratic principles and institutions within the country, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Hoyt Yee and Ambassador Maureen Cormack spoke with the RS President to underscore our concerns about his recent statements and actions, and to reiterate what we have said previously – that defying a decision of the Constitutional Court violates the rule of law, and those responsible must be held accountable.  We take any attempt to undermine the Dayton Peace Agreement very seriously.

We count on competent institutions to address violations of rule of law in accordance with the laws of BiH, and support the legal process initiated by those institutions, while we continue to evaluate appropriate consequences authorized under U.S. law.

We urged Mr. Dodik to take steps to show his positive commitment to the Dayton Peace Accords, the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the country’s continued European integration.
