UN extends EUFOR Althea Mission’s Mandate in BiH

The United Nations Security Council unanimously extended the mandate of the EUFOR “Althea” mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina for another year. All Council members voted in favor of the extension, including Russia, which had questioned the continuation of the mission in previous years.

Although it has often expressed reservations in the past, Moscow did not veto it this time, as Milorad Dodik had previously announced after a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

Russia announced that the position of the Republika Srpska on the situation in BiH would be presented through a report by the Russian Ambassador to the UN, prepared by the RS Government in response to the report by the High Representative Christian Schmidt.

The UN Security Council is discussing both reports after adopting a resolution on the extension of the Althea mission, during the regular debate on the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, held on 31 October in New York.
