UN noted Lamija Gutic from Sarajevo as an Example of a Girl who can change the World

A 16 years old Lamija Gutic, who completed the first grade of the First Bosniak Gymnasium in Sarajevo, was noted as an example of a girl who can change the world and can inspire many girls in the region by the UN Women.

“Back in 2014, on the occasion of the International Day of Children’s Rights, I visited the UN House here in Sarajevo for the very first time. I could not even imagine that I will appear on one of their global sites one day. I have to also mention the Hour of Coding, which was my first touch with the world of IT. Before that, I did not have any idea what programming or encoding might actually be about. The Hour of Coding in BiH is organized by the Center for Promotion of Civil Society and this event, which is held on June 12, every year, is becoming a bigger story and I am very happy for that. My story with the UN continued in May 2016 when I participated in the web development training that was organized by the initiative IT Girls, which is sponsored by three UN agencies: UN Women, UNICEF, and UNDP,” said young Lamija.

Her efforts and progress were notices by UN Women BiH in May, and UN Women recently published her story on their social networks, which was a great surprise for her.

Lamija’s greatest goal is to encourage other girls, both older and younger than herself, to use their potential, whether in the field of IT, fashion or something else.

Her hobby is photography, and she especially enjoys post production of photos and the work in Photoshop. She spends her summer holidays by reading and resting from school obligations.

She wants to develop applications that will improve the health of their users and help them in their further education. She believes that we need digitization of the education system at the state level, and not just in individual cantons.
