unicefA delegation of the Executive Board of UNICEF visited the Disciplinary Center for Juveniles in Tuzla yesterday to see the results of the work in Tuzla Canton.

The main goal was for the members of the Executive Board to become familiar with the situation of families in the country and to consider the priorities, strategies and results of the program of cooperation between UNICEF and BIH and to speak about it with their partners.

“We are working actively with children to influence change in their behavior. Our guests admire this preventative part of our activities, individual preventative treatments, group workshops, lectures that we are conducting with elementary and middle schools’’, said the Director of the Disciplinary Center for Juveniles in Tuzla Canton Mirza Đedovbegović. He pointed out that UNICEF supports the Disciplinary Center in its work with juveniles in a way that is acceptable for children.

He explained that the UNICEF delegation presented a working model of the Disciplinary Center and presented to them the entire juvenile system of the justice system in Tuzla Canton together with the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Tuzla Canton and the sector for Social Protection and Education in Tuzla.

The Executive Board Delegation of UNICEF participated in the filming of a one-minute film that was produced and filmed by juveniles from the Disciplinary Center in Tuzla.

“It is really good to see what is being done in the area of justice, and especially to see positive steps in the work with young people who have committed a crime, because young people can very easily go down the wrong path’’, said the President of the Delegation of the Executive Board for UNICEF Jarmo Viinaner.

Members of the UNICEF Delegation, in addition to Tuzla, will visit Kiseljak, Žepče, Derventa and Brčko in order to get a glimpse of joint programs tied to social protection, education, early childhood development and juvenile justice.

The visits will be organized in the form of site visits and discussions with partners from governmental and nongovernmental organizations, UN agencies, international organizations, communities, families and children.
