Victims’ Associations wrote to the EU Delegation: Your attitude is hypocritical and insulting

Five associations of victims sent a letter to the Delegation of the European Union in Bosnia and Herzegovina, asking them to respect the victims of genocide and correct “hypocritical” actions.

The letter from the Association of Victims and Witnesses of Genocide, the Movement Association “Mother Enclaves of Srebrenica and Žepa”, the Association “Women of Podrinje”, the Association “Mothers of Srebrenica” and the Association “Women of Srebrenica” was sent after the EU delegation laid flowers on the Serbian military memorial in Bratunac on Tuesday cemetery.

The Chargé d’Affaires of the European Union in Bosnia and Herzegovina Adebayo Babajide and diplomats from the EU member states laid a wreath at the Military Cemetery and expressed, as stated, “empathy and respect for all innocent civilian victims, as well as the acceptance of historical and judicially determined facts are key to creating an environment conducive to reconciliation”.

A visit to the Military Cemetery, where members of the VRS, who participated in the genocide in Srebrenica, are buried, triggered fierce reactions.

“It is not the same to come to honor the victims of genocide, and then to honor those who committed genocide. It is not and cannot be. Your attitude towards the victims of genocide is extremely hypocritical and insulting. We are aware that there are those among you who do not care, but at least respect resolutions of the European Parliament if you do not already respect the victims of genocide. Your actions show a lack of empathy and understanding for the pain of the survivors,” the victims’ association said in a letter.

They are asking the representatives of the European Union who visited the cemetery in Bratunac to apologize to the victims of the genocide or, as they say, “let them leave BiH”.

“Your behavior only deepens the wounds and further complicates the process of reconciliation,” the association’s letter states, AA writes.
