Vulin: Serbia will never become a Member of the EU

Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandar Vulin has said he is convinced that Serbia will never become a member of the European Union.

Vulin said that Serbia has been trying to join the EU for decades, so it would be irresponsible to say that it is no longer important.

“At the same time, Serbia is now faced with the challenge of getting to know the opportunities offered by BRICS better,” Vulin told RIA Novosti.

He said that Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić said that in the next two to three years, Serbian citizens will probably be asked in a referendum whether Serbia wants to become a member of BRICS or another organization – the EU.

“I am convinced that we will never become a member of the EU,” Vulin said.

He stated that the wish of the Socialist Movement, which he founded, is for Serbia to one day become a member of BRICS, but that this is not an issue that the country can resolve on its own.

BRICS is an intergovernmental association created in 2006 by Russia, China, India and Brazil.

South Africa joined in 2011. Since the beginning of 2024, a number of other countries have joined BRICS.
