The mayor of Sarajevo, Benjamina Karić, announced that the mayor of Washington, Muriel Bowser, made a decision to declare March 1 as the Day of Bosnian-American Friendship.

Karić emphasized that in February of this year she met with the mayor of Washington, and that today great news arrived from this American city.

“Today there is great news from Washington, Mayor Bowser declared March 1, the Independence Day of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Day of Bosnian-American Friendship. Thank you Mayor,” wrote Karić.

The mayor of Sarajevo met with Bowser in early February during her stay in the USA.

As Karić clarified after the meeting, relations between Sarajevo and Washington were officially established for the first time.

“To my great pleasure, I spoke with Mayor Muriel Bowser, the mayor of the capital of the most powerful political and economic country in the world. Our goal is to connect our cities, open up numerous opportunities for cooperation in different areas, exchange information and experiences in mutual interest,” said Karić.
