When will the 2018 Commission’s Report on BiH be adopted?

Resolution of the European Parliament on 2018 Commission’s Report on Bosnia and Herzegovina will not be adopted until the Joint Stabilisation and Association Parliamentary Committee is formed by BiH’s authorities.

The decision has been initiated by the country’s Rapporteur, Christian Dan Preda. He urged the president of the Foreign Affairs Committee (AFET), David McAllister, not to send the draft resolution to the plenary session of the parliament.

Even though the Stabilisation and Association Agreement with BiH was signed three years ago, the Committee still has not been set up because of the demands that the members should be determined along ethnic and entity lines. This has been found unacceptable by the EU.

“If a work of such a standard body is being systemically blocked, how strong opposition should be expected when it comes to much more significant reforms”, said the Head of EP delegation for relations with Bosnia and Herzegovina Tonino Picula.

The European Parliament has recently adopted resolutions on Albania, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro, and Serbia. The elections in Bosnia and Herzegovina took place on 7 October, but the government still has not been formed, N1 reports.
