More than 40 million euros have been invested in the construction of a new state prison in Vojkovici near Sarajevo. However, if you approach the entrance you will not notice that it is a state facility or institution since there is no state flag.
Investors are listed on a large board in front of the prison gate, along with the flags of the European Union (EU), Sweden, and the United States (US). However, the flag of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) has simply not been set up.
According to the Law on the Flag of BiH, the state flag must be displayed on all buildings of BiH institutions or institutions that are responsible to the state institutions of BiH.
The Institute for Execution of the Criminal Sanctions, Detention and Other Measures of BiH was solemnly opened at the end of July last year in the area of the Municipality of Istocna Ilidza near Sarajevo.
The facility covers 24.000 square meters and has 348 places, of which 298 are intended for convicts and 50 for detainees. The cornerstone for this prison was laid in 2006.
A total of 238 convicts and detainees were placed in this prison at the end of December 2020, and what is worrying is the fact that they are guarded by twice fewer guards, most of whom have no experience at all, Klix.ba writes.
