What will become more expensive as of January 1?

potrosacka-korpa3As soon as the new year begins, the citizens of BiH will face new increases in prices.

People of BiH live in a country where everything is luxury. Food, clothes, house supplies have become luxury long time ago, and needless to say anything about cars or vacations. With every new delivery that arrives in BiH new prices also arrive, higher, of course, so the food in BIH now has approximately the same price as in countries of the European Union and wages are at least four times lower!

Consumer associations draw attention to a major problem – the silent growth of prices of all goods and services, uncontrolled by anyone. They believe the similar situation will continue next year as well.

With the arrival of new year the cigarettes, tobacco and coffee will get new prices, and it is still unknown what will happen with gasoline.

New pricelist of cigarettes should be known in December. Price of coffee in retail sale has already increased, and the growth of price is expected to continue next year.

Dragutin Bošković, president of the Consumer’s Movement in the RS, says that the times were never more ruthless to the consumers because the costs of elementary foodstuffs are becoming higher and higher, which makes food in BiH among the most expensive foods in Europe in comparison with the living standard of the citizens.

Vladimir Usorac, president of the Association of agricultural producers and dairymen of RS, says that domestic producers have not increased their prices nor they intend to, but that the prices are increase in stores and will probably continue increasing because trade lobbies are those who dictate the food prices, not producers.

Although many people were delighted with the news that the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH did not support the proposal to increase the tax on fuel by 15 fennings per liter in mid-October, several days later it was decided that excise taxes on oil and oil products will be considered by ministers in the Council of Ministers of BiH again.

In the Letter of Intent for the IMF, BiH authorities obliged to increase the current excise taxes on oil and oil products by 15 fennings per liter, and entity ministers have been trying to do this since September last year.

Therefore, it is reasonable to conclude that it is only the matter of time when the fuel will be burdened with additional 15 fennings, thus increasing the price of one liter of fuel to nearly two BAM or even over two BAM.
