In the last year, negotiations regarding changes to the Election Law of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) have been going on intensively, but they mostly failed due to the demands of Dragan Covic, the president of the HDZ, who advocates “legitimate representation”.
After a recording of the conversation between HDZ BiH leader Dragan Covic and Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto in which they discussed changes to the Election Law in BiH appeared in the public domain, and the Croatian National Assembly (HNS), of which Covic is the president, reacted.
HNS disputes the fact that the conversation was recorded and then published, but they do not dispute what was said during the conversation.
“BiH must once and for all face the destructive activities of radical Bosniak para-intelligence structures in the Intelligence – Security Agency of BiH (OSA BiH), among media editors and activists who operate illegally, record and publicly disseminate illegally collected audio and video recordings of domestic and international high-ranking officials,” it was announced from the HNS Information Office.
In the conversation with the Hungarian minister, Covic states that he will not allow “one people from BiH to speak on behalf of BiH” and that he wants them to be “representatives of institutions and constituent peoples”.
Peter Szijjarto answered that they are in favor of changes to the Electoral Law, which is based on “Christian principles and values”.
They also stated that Andrej Plenkovic, Prime Minister of Croatia, Gordan Grlic Radman, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Croatia, and Viktor Orban, Prime Minister of Hungary, will be informed about everything.
It is particularly symptomatic that Plenkovic previously admitted that he lobbied in the European Union (EU) for changes to the electoral legislation that would be in favor of the HDZ, Radio Sarajevo reports.
