The world day of down syndrome, a genetic disorder caused by the presence of one extra chromosome, is celebrated today.
Down Syndrome International (DSI) has officially marked 21 March as the International Day of Down Syndrome and the date was chosen to mark the uniqueness of Down Syndrome, which consists of the presence of 21 chromosomes.
On the occasion of the World Day of Down Syndrome, the Association of Down Syndrome in Mostar today from 12:00-2:00 at the Shopping Mall Mepas Mall will organize occasional socializing and will present sales stands of the works of its members.
This one day program marks at the same time the third anniversary of this association, which was established in February 2011, with the aim of the inclusion of people with Down Syndrome in all spheres of society.
According to the data of the symposium on Down Syndrome in Herzegovina, held last year on the topic “Health monitoring of people with Down Syndrome from birth until adolescence, in Mostar 1 child out of 650 is born with Down Syndrome and in Herzegovina 4 children a year are born with this syndrome.
