Yemen’s Houthi Group Claims Missile Attack on Ben Gurion Airport in Israel

Yemen’s Houthi group has claimed responsibility for a missile attack on Ben Gurion Airport in Israel and a US aircraft carrier in the Red Sea.

The group’s spokesman, Yahya Saree, said its forces had directly hit the airport with a hypersonic ballistic missile.

The Israeli military confirmed the attack but said the missile was intercepted outside Israeli airspace.

There were no reports of casualties.

The Israeli military said in a statement that sirens were activated due to fears of falling debris.

Saree said the Houthi forces had also targeted US warships, including the USS Harry Truman aircraft carrier in the Red Sea, with multiple missiles and drones.

There was no immediate comment from the US on the claims.

The Yemeni group also said at least nine people had been injured in US airstrikes in Yemen yesterday.

The US has carried out more than 60 airstrikes on Yemen since Saturday, killing more than 50 people and wounding dozens more.

The Houthis have been using missiles and drones to target Israeli-linked ships passing through the Red Sea, the Arabian Sea, the Bab al-Mandab Strait and the Gulf of Aden since late 2023, disrupting global trade in what they say is a show of solidarity with the Gaza Strip.

They stopped their attacks when a ceasefire in Gaza was declared in January between Israel and the Palestinian group Hamas, but resumed their attacks when Israel imposed restrictions on humanitarian aid to Gaza earlier this month.
