Young People dissatisfied with their Place in BiH Society

At the thematic session of the Commission for Youth Affairs of the House of Representatives of the Federal Parliament, among other things, it was requested that the Government form the Youth Council of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH) in accordance with the applicable provisions of the Law on Youth of this entity. It was also concluded that the Federal Ministry of Culture and Sports plans to increase the allocation to one million BAM. The Youth Council and the Institute for Youth Development ‘KULT’ pointed out to the authorities the poor position of young people in society.

”The fact that over 60 percent of young people in the FBiH believe that they have no influence on decision-making is also an important fact. Do young people really believe that they have the opportunity to sit down with decision-makers and make decisions that are really important to them – obviously not,” says Jasmina Banjaluckic from the Institute for Youth Development ‘KULT’.

It is extremely important that we deal with these problems institutionally, according to KULT, but also that young people need to get involved, in order to have the opportunity to participate in decision-making. These and other problems were identified as a priority at the thematic session of the Committee on Youth Affairs of the House of Representatives of the Federation Parliament.

”We deal with issues of activism and youth organization, health, social protection, housing and employment, self-employment, entrepreneurship – all that will lead to a better position of young people in society in FBiH and in BiH,” explains the President of the FBiH Youth Commission Eldar Comor.

”We can often hear in the media that young people are a priority and a future in our society, but we can rarely see that in concrete moves. I think this is a positive example though and we can say that this is the first step. I think we have opened something that will be the beginning of progressive policies towards young people,” states the Secretary-General of the FBiH Youth Council Nedim Alibegovic.

The Institute for Youth Development said that it is necessary for government representatives to start making decisions that would not only keep young people but provide them with a positive environment for a quality life.
