[wzslider autoplay=”true”]Grenades, snipers, lack of basic foodstuffs and the daily struggle to survive… Life under the siege has not been easy or simple, and that’s the reason why we appreciate the positive stories of human strength and spirit that is not defeated and is looking forward to life, in spite of all difficulties and death. One such story begins in a basement in Sarajevo neighborhood Hrasno.
“We have not allowed that time and the madness to run over us. There’s nothing we have not done. In all that madness, we were dancing, learning to train and practice karate katas etc. Back then, there was a lot of people of all nationalities on the square of Sarajevo, we all cared for each other’s, loved each other, we were making parties, organizing small celebrations of the New Year’s Eve, discussed about what to cook from humanitarian aid that we received, we exchanged clothes etc.” said Sarajevo host Elvir Hadzijamakovic, also known as Lilo and added that the people were united, believing, helping each other and sharing everything.
“Some of my friends from school were killed, some of them left B&H, some of them are here, we are all kind of dispersed around the world. Today, we all live our lives, sometimes we remember all those people who are no longer here, we remember some happy stories, and we laugh … We mostly remember positive stories, I guess that we are pushing the negative and bad things deep inside,” said Lilo and added that one of his friends from the photo died in the war after being shot by a sniper on the bridge at Dolac Malta. He was only 17 years old.
Lilo says that he remembers the war, above all, as positive because of the energy and because, unlike today, there was a critical mass who wanted to change a lot of things and to stop the war.
“I’m mad at the young people who do not want to change some things, we wanted to change the world in war, we had the energy, we wanted it, we dreamed about better times, better days, we did not gave up,” said Lilo.
