Zvizdic-Wessely: EUFOR was and remains one of the most important Links for Security in BiH

Yesterday, the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina (PABiH) Denis Zvizdic talked with the Commander of the European Union Force (EUFOR) Headquarters in BiH, General Anton Wessely, about the security situation in BiH and support of EUFOR, which is the most important link to prevent any destabilizing processes.

”The conversation with General Wessely was very correct and constructive. EUFOR was and remains one of the most important links to prevent any processes that could destabilize BiH, as well as to preserve peace and stability in BiH and therefore the Western Balkans,” Zvizdic said, stating that it is especially important at this moment.

He emphasized that we in BiH need peace and stability in order to be able to continue with the realization of two key foreign policy priorities, namely European integration, and NATO integration.

”In that sense, I still think it is very important to consider the option of accelerated accession of BiH to NATO, and as a preliminary step, the possibility of deploying NATO troops to several key points in BiH, with a focus on Brcko District and certainly the need for BiH to get the candidate status according to the shortened procedure, because we deserved it, which would permanently put it on the tracks leading to European integration,” Zvizdic pointed out.

He said that these days we are witnessing new, incidental situations in the Presidency of BiH.

”Projects of separatism, territorial pretensions in BiH are obviously still alive and therefore must be stopped. Such intentions must be stopped. BiH must have complete peace, a stable situation, to enable a normal, peaceful, and prosperous life for its citizens,” Zvizdic explained.

Also, he said that he had scheduled a session of the House of Representatives of the PABiH for tomorrow and that the central topic would be ”the behavior of BiH’s institutions in relation to aggression against the internationally recognized state of Ukraine.”

Zvizdic expressed hope that all delegates, as he said, will have enough courage and wisdom, human dignity, and awareness of what is happening in Ukraine, which is very reminiscent of the war in BiH cities, especially Sarajevo, to support territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine.
