The 5.3 earthquake hit the border between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro at 4:06 am and was also felt in Croatia.
The first data from the European Mediterranean Seismological Center showed that it was an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.7, while later checks determined that it was a magnitude of 5.3 on the Richter scale.
The earthquake occurred about 32 kilometers northwest of Nikšić.
The seismology sector of the Institute for Hydrometeorology and Seismology of Montenegro announced that it registered a stronger earthquake with an epicenter 5 km southwest of CARODJ (Montenegro).
The strength of this earthquake in the hypocenter (focal point) was 5.4 units on the Richter scale, which corresponds to the epicentral intensity of degree VII of the Mercalli scale (MCS). The epicenter of this earthquake was located at a depth of 14 km.
Based on the numerical model of the change in intensity with distance in this region, the magnitude of the earthquake and the depth of the hypocenter, this earthquake could have caused some material damage in the epicentral area.
So far, there are no reports of damage.
After this, two more smaller earthquakes occurred, one in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which was 3.1 on the Richter scale and occurred around 4:15 am, 28 km from Bileća. The second was in the territory of Montenegro, also, according to the measurements of the European Mediterranean Seismological Center, it was about 3.1 on the Richter scale and was 28 km of Nikšić.
