78% of BH Citizens support the Entry into the EU

BiH European Union78% of citizens within the country support B&H’s potential membership in the EU, following the results of public opinion poll that was conducted in the first three months by the Directorate for the European Integrations (DEI) B&H.

Yesterday, The Council of Ministers adopted the information about this research, which showed that if a referendum was carried out with the question “Do you support the entry of B&H to the EU?” 78% of citizens would vote in favour.

The main reasons that would determine citizens to vote for the membership of B&H in the EU would be creating a larger number of qualitative workplaces and the guarantee of the permanent peace and stability, as announced from the DEI B&H.

On the other hand, those who would vote against the membership would do it because they believe that membership in the EU would result in higher costs of living and increase taxes, as well as a loss of cultural diversity.

Among the priority reforms, citizens singled out the fight against corruption, reducing the tax burden on labour and the removal of employment barriers.

The unwillingness to change and the politicization of the process of integrating and the policy of the conditionality that the EU carries out towards B&H, are considered to be the biggest obstacles regarding integration into the EU.

A third of the respondents consider that B&H is already negotiating on membership in the EU, while two-thirds consider that the membership in the EU has no alternative.

The research has been conducted with the CATI method on a representative number of respondents throughout the country.
