Another Country joined as a co-sponsor of the Resolution on Srebrenica

North Macedonia has decided to support the Resolution on Srebrenica by being a co-sponsor of the resolution, the country’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Bujar Osmani confirmed.

At the press conference organized in the building of the Ministry in Skopje, Osmani said that North Macedonia decided to be a co-sponsor of the Resolution in the United Nations (UN) on declaring July 11th as the International Day of Remembrance and Commemoration of the Genocide in Srebrenica in 1995.

“North Macedonia is a co-sponsor, together with Germany, the United States (U.S.), and other countries, of the resolution in the UN to declare July 11th as the International Day of Remembrance and Commemoration of the Genocide in Srebrenica in 1995 and to mark it every year,” Osmani said at the press conference and added:

“I think it is especially important for Serbia to pass this resolution with the aim of having the facts recognized and promoted since all the decisions of international courts and bodies show that genocide took place in Srebrenica. As long as it is renounced and not recognized, the possibility of it happening again is probable.”

On May 2nd, the UN General Assembly will also discuss the Resolution on Srebrenica, which is an issue that has already caused numerous reactions in the region, especially among officials in Republika Srpska (RS) and Serbia.

The resolution has so far been supported by the U.S., Germany, Italy, France, Turkey, Albania, Chile, Finland, Ireland, Jordan, Liechtenstein, Malaysia, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Rwanda, Slovenia, and North Macedonia.
