Bascarsija_squareWith the implementation of the project of control of access at the territory of the Stari Grad Municipality, as of next year the old town core will be closed for all forms of traffic, thus preventing damaging of the streets and the Baščaršija Square.

In order to finalize the project, a Management Center has to be established in which the surveillance equipment will be installed. Movable ramps will be placed at all locations where the poles and cameras will be installed, as well as devices which will regulate their lowering/lifting based on cards issued by the Municipality. It will be clearly defined who can purchase the card for vehicle access, such as emergency services vehicles, Cantonal Public Utility Company Rad, police, firefighters, and the like.

Besides that, it is foreseen that the delivery vehicles, whose size will also be limited, are only allowed to access the square between 6 a.m. and 8 a.m. Lifting of the ramp in emergency situations will be regulated from the Management Center, and the Center’s phone number will be stated at every device so that a call can be made in case of emergency and that it can be promptly reacted. In addition, the Center will have video surveillance over each location where the poles will be placed.

According to the Mayor Ibrahim Hadžibajrić, in this way the very heart of the Old Town will be preserved and uncontrolled traffic of vehicles will be prevented.

Planned locations for placing of the poles which will disable the traffic are: above Sebilj, streets Oprkanj, Bravadžiluk, Abadžiluk, Bazerdžani, Aščiluk, Kundurdžiluk, Gazi Husrev-begova (north and south), Muvekita, Štrosmajerova, Trg oslobođenja-Alija Izetbegović, Jelića, Đulagina, above the Cathedral, Prote Bakovića.

Card price will be subsequently determined, as well as the users, and the users will be able to purchase the card on annual level.
