Semiha Borovac, the Minister for Human Rights and Refugees of Bosnia and Herzegovina, today in Bijeljina signed cooperation agreements with the mayors of 32 cities and municipalities to realize 43 infrastructural projects in places where displaced people live.
One of the infrastructural projects in Bijeljina is asphalting a road in Novo Naselje, where 829 houses in which Serbs that fled or migrated from 32 municipalities now live. One of them is Budimir Trifkovic, who is from Ilijas.
“We need a road the most. We have water, we have a telephone. The road here is catastrophic. I even tried fixing it a bit last time. There were holes. A part was asphalted. I hope that they will asphalt this road. We’re waiting for that to happen, even if I have to help a bit,” says Budimir Trifkovic, a settler in Novo Naselje.
Bijeljina has an equal number of displaced people and returnees. A roof over their head isn’t a priority anymore, but rather infrastructure, jobs, sustainable development, and survival for all.
To close the collective centers, the European Union provided BiH with a credit of 120 million KM, in addition to EU member-states’ donations for solving the question of the returnees in the amount of 200 million BAM.
Bijeljina will get the most projects, namely 200,000 BAM for six settlements.
