Becirovic: The Danger of new Crimes has not been removed

Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) Presidency member Denis Becirovic spoke yesterday in Ahmici on the occasion of marking the 30th anniversary of the Croatian Defense Council’s (HVO) crimes against the Bosniak population of Ahmici, Donja Veceriska, and other places in the Municipality of Vitez.

“We have no right to forget 116 innocent Bosniak victims, killed in a bloody and criminal campaign by members of the HVO. Among the innocent victims were 32 women and 11 children under the age of 18. The youngest victim was a three-month-old baby,” Becirovic stated.

He said that the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) ruled that the murders in Ahmici were a crime against humanity.

“One of the organizers and commanders of this crime, a convicted war criminal Dario Kordic, was sentenced to 25 years in prison. Unfortunately, not all criminals have been convicted of the terrible crimes in Ahmici,” he said.

Moreover, Becirovic pointed out that the final judgments of the highest international courts cannot be erased or annulled.

“The world’s highest courts have established that BiH was attacked and genocide committed against Bosniaks. Unfortunately, the threat of repeating crimes and genocide has not been removed. There are still politicians on the scene who openly threaten BiH. We have no right to ignore and underestimate these threats,” Becirovic emphasized.

In the end, Becirovic said that he wants to build a common life with all well-intentioned people who are fighting for peace and progress.

“Regardless of all the pain and suffering, I believe in a safe future for the state of BiH. We have a future if we teach our children to be smarter and stronger, to love their own, and respect others. We must create a democratic and civilized society in which people will measure themselves according to human virtues. Building such a society is an obligation and moral-historical debt of both us in BiH and the representatives of the international community,” Becirovic concluded, Klix.ba reports.
