Members of the Border Police of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH)arrested 564 individuals last year based on warrants issued by Interpol, courts, and police authorities.

During border controls and checks last year, 2.179 individuals were identified as being sought by competent authorities, including those with warrants, search notices, border crossing bans, individuals of security interest, and persons for whom information about border crossings needed to be provided, the BiH Border Police stated.

Based on warrants issued by competent authorities in BiH, 768 individuals were detected last year, representing an increase of 1.9 percent compared to 2023, of whom 518 were arrested for committing criminal offenses.

Interpol warrants led to the discovery of 177 individuals, marking a 14.3 percent increase compared to the same period in 2023, with 46 individuals arrested for committing criminal offenses.

All 564 individuals arrested based on issued warrants were handed over to the competent authorities for further proceedings.

Regarding search activities, members of the Border Police last year identified 334 documents at border crossings that were sought for various reasons or were declared void/inactive or stolen/lost by competent authorities.

Out of this total, 141 were BiH documents, and 193 were foreign documents sought by Interpol.

Additionally, 17 passenger vehicles were temporarily seized based on warrants.

“The BiH Border Police continues to invest human resources and material-technical capacities in border protection and is determined to take all available measures and actions to combat all forms of cross-border crime, both independently and in cooperation with other law enforcement agencies, with the aim of creating a secure environment for all citizens in BiH,” the statement said.
