The Chairperson of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), Borjana Kristo, spoke yesterday in Sarajevo with the special envoy of the German Government for the Western Balkans, Manuel Sarrazin, about the current political situation and the European path of BiH.
The meeting concluded that the relations between the two countries are good, friendly and without open questions. Kristo expressed her gratitude to Germany for its continuous support to our country and added that at this moment we need further, strong and continuous political support from the European Union (EU), which would enable the fulfillment of obligations and the opening of accession negotiations as soon as possible.
Sarazzin said that Germany believes that BiH has a place in the EU and that it must not lag behind the countries in the region on that path. He added that Germany supports the process of European integration and believes that it is important to improve the areas of rule of law, democracy, and economic development, that is, the rapid implementation of the necessary reforms in BiH.
Kristo told that the Council of Ministers of BiH remains strongly committed to European integration and is dedicated to fulfilling the 8+1 conditions, that is, 14 key priorities from the Opinion of the European Commission. She emphasized the commitment of the BiH Council of Ministers to the European path, and added that with this work dynamic she shares justified optimism that BiH could open membership negotiations by the end of 2023.
She said that BiH is making significant efforts to harmonize its foreign policy with the Common Foreign and Security Policy of the EU. Chairperson Kristo pointed out that the help of friendly Germany, like all other friends in the EU, is very important in stabilizing the political situation in BiH, but that permanent peace and stability should be built from within, with the agreement of the legitimate political representatives of the people at all administrative and political levels.
She emphasized that BiH’s progress depends greatly on strengthening and improving mutual trust, internal dialogue, and consensus, especially regarding the most important internal political issues regarding the implementation of the decision of the Constitutional Court of BiH and the judgments of the European Court of Human Rights, which require a limited constitutional reform and amendment of the electoral legislation, klix.ba reports.
