europolBiH should soon have its Europol Liaison Officer in The Hague, as confirmed by the Minister of Security of BiH, Dragan Mektic and the Minister of Internal Affairs, Dragan Lukac.

After the meeting in Banja Luka was concluded that all procedures related to the implementation of an operational agreement on cooperation of BiH with EUROPOL have been completed.

“We need to establish our office in the headquarters of Europol in The Hague and point for cooperation in BiH, thus we were looking for the most rational solution,” said Minister Mektic, emphasizing that they expect a lot from the cooperation with the European Police Office, and thus fulfill one of the conditions from the Reform Agenda and commitments for integration in the EU.

“We found a rational solution to finance this cooperation,” added Mektic.

The Minister of Interior of the RS Dragan Lukac said that this agreement would raise cooperation with Europol to a much higher level.

Lukac repeated that the Council of Ministers of BiH has no need to conduct their investigation in connection with the proposal of the authorized bodies on taking restrictive measures against individuals and legal persons in accordance with the decision on the implementation of resolution 1373 (2001) of the Security Council of the United Nations.

“The ideal would be to prosecute people who are proved to be financing terrorism and that the Council of Ministers of BiH to put them on the so-called ‘Blacklist’ as final judgment,” added Lukac noting that the Council of Ministers of BiH should not open an investigation on their own, in which case nothing is in dispute.

Minister Mektic said that certain misunderstandings in connection with this decision were resolved at this meeting, specifying that BiH has accepted the resolution concerning the prevention of money laundering to finance terrorism and that there might be some misrepresentation who could be found on the list of suspects who performed these activities.

At the meeting was concluded that the collaboration of police agencies is necessary in the interest of safety of the RS and BiH and its citizens.
