BiH has not joined EU’s Sanctions against Russia

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina has rejected claims by some media outlets that BiH has joined the European Union’s sanctions against Russia, noting that BiH’s position on the issue remains unchanged.

BiH has not joined the restrictive measures imposed on Russia in response to the annexation of Crimea and Sevastopol, nor the Declaration of the European Council of 20 June 2019 extending those measures.

The Head of Mission of the BiH Mission to the European Union in Brussels briefed all diplomats in that diplomatic mission and consular post on an instruction from the Ministry dated April 15, 2019 explicitly stating that BiH could not join these measures.

All members of the Mission have been asked to follow the Ministry’s instruction and BiH’s position remains in effect, the statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
