As part of intensive meetings with officials from the United States, BiH Presidency Member Denis Bećirović also spoke in Washington with US Congressman Keith Self (Republican Party), Chairman of the Subcommittee on Europe in the House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs.
Bećirović expressed his gratitude to the US for its continued support and commitment to Bosnia and Herzegovina. He emphasized that the decades-long strategic partnership with the US is extremely important for preserving peace, stability and overall progress in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region.
The proactive and friendly relationship of the US Congress towards Bosnia and Herzegovina is of particular importance, as is its continued support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of our state. In this regard, he said that he would continue to inform US officials about the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina with arguments and act decisively in the interests of the state and all its citizens. Joint action in opposing external malign influence and hybrid actions against Bosnia and Herzegovina is important for the security of Bosnia and Herzegovina, but also for Euro-Atlantic security.
Bećirović stressed the importance of US support for the Office of the High Representative of the international community (OHR) as one of the key factors in preserving the Dayton Peace Agreement. The High Representative exists on the basis of the Dayton Peace Agreement and any weakening of its role and competence could have incalculable consequences for peace and security in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region. The experience from 2025 shows that the OHR is an extremely important institution in opposing anti-Dayton policies, which is of essential importance for the stability, peace and smooth development of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The Member of the Presidency of BiH said that by pursuing a responsible policy, Bosnia and Herzegovina will further improve cooperation with the US, which includes initiating and implementing joint strategic projects, starting with broad cooperation in the field of security and defense, the Southern Gas Interconnection and many others. Improving economic opportunities, creating a stable environment and strengthening the rule of law are benefits for all citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Congressman Self said that the US respects the Dayton Peace Agreement and is committed to preserving peace and stability in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Western Balkans region, the Office of BiH Presidency Member Denis Bećirović announced.
