Central Election Commission (CEC) member Stjepan Mikic has resigned from that position because of retirement, is confirmed by CEC spokeswoman Maksida Piric.

Piric stated that the CEC received a notification from Stjepan Mikic to resign. “This act will be delivered to the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH,” Piric said.

Mikic, who is a member of the CEC from the ranks of the Croatian people, decided on this move after the CEC called local elections and scheduled it for October 4, Vijesti.ba news portal reports.

He was elected a member of the CEC in 2005 and has been the president of this institution on two occasions in the last 15 years.

According to the proposed decision, due to the expiration of the mandate, the function of a member of the CEC of BiH will end for Stjepan Mikic, and Zeljko Bakalar was proposed for that position from the ranks of Croat people in BiH. Bakalar is the current advisor in the cabinet of the Croatian member of the Presidency of BiH, Zeljko Komsic.
