After the report of the SD BiH party against Zoran Milanovic, due to, as stated, gross downplaying of the crime of genocide in Srebrenica, the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) confirmed that the case is being worked on. The report was filed because of Milanovic’s statement that ”every genocide is not the same”.
”You really have a Prosecutor’s Office dealing with that, and for someone who is untouchable to them?” Zoran Milanovic, President of the Republic of Croatia, stated. Then he used the curse used in Dalmatia.
Milanovic points out that he is not a denier of genocide. He states that he does not deny the bloody crimes in Srebrenica, but for him, the question remains how to qualify it.
”We must ask the Jews, of whom 6 million were killed. Tutsis in Rwanda, 800.000 of whom were killed in a month, tens of thousands of Serbs who perished with Jews and Croats in Jasenovac, and 5-6 thousand young men who were killed around Srebrenica,” Zoran Milanovic added.
Lawyer Crnalic points out that the BiH Prosecutor’s Office needs to determine whether Milanovic publicly disputed the genocide.
”The prosecutor’s office is authorized to prosecute any foreigner who commits a criminal offense covered by the criminal law of BiH. There is no obstacle according to the rules on spatial validity, but on the condition that the essential elements of the criminal offense described in the criminal law are met,” state lawyer Asim Crnalic.
After the introduction of changes to the law in July of last year, more than 40 cases were received in the BiH Prosecutor’s Office. All cases are in the process, without prosecutorial decisions, the BiH Prosecutor’s Office announced.
According to information obtained by Balkan Investigative Reporting Network (BIRN) journalists, the decision not to conduct an investigation has already been made in half of them.
Imposed amendments to the Criminal Code of BiH stipulate prison sentences of six months to five years for anyone who publicly approves, denies, grossly diminishes, or tries to justify the crime of genocide, crime against humanity, or war crime determined by a final verdict. At yesterday’s peaceful parade in Tuzla, the mothers and wives of Srebrenica and Podrinje announced that they will not give up the fight for justice and truth.
