What was concluded at the Meeting Wigemark-Cvijanovic?

After the meeting with the Prime Minister of Republika Srpska Zeljka Cvijanovic in Banja Luka, Head of the EU Delegation to BiH and the EU Special Representative in BiH said that the EU “does not hold any side or points to the culprit”.

He called the leaders to agree on their positions, especially before important international meetings, such as the one in Trieste that took place last week, where the process of joining the Transport Community was on the agenda, and he assessed that such behavior was “shameful”.

“It is unacceptable for us that any political party or leader says “we cannot agree on this issue” and just stands there waiting for a solution to the situation to appear,“ stated Wigemark, and added that the process of European integrations includes responsible leadership and actions.

He also noted that the EU will not accept explanations that there is a delay in the process of EU integrations due to the approaching elections.

“The elections are far away. Citizens will make a decision in a year and a half. It is unacceptable to leave everything without real activity and action at this point,” added Wigemark.

Wigemark noted that the EU was impressed by the progress that BiH achieved last year, but that was not the case this year, and one of the negative signals was the issue of not signing the Agreement of Accession to the Transport Community. He said that he is hoping they will find a solution for this “with some good will”, as well as for all the other issues and common strategies, including the one on energy, environmental protection, and employment as well.

“The same refers to other reforms as well, including the Law on Excise Duties. These are the issues that must be solved. We did not demand any special solution or the amount of excise taxes, but we believe that this is a matter that the authorities of this country have to agree on, or the process of integrations will be slowed down,” noted Wigemark.

“The RS is not to be blamed for this. This question will be resolved, but we should discuss it and agree on it,” stated Cvijanovic.
