The European Border and Coast Guard Agency (Frontex) stated in their report that 3 775 citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) were refused to enter the EU countries in 2017, a decrease of 7.5 percent year-on-year, Srpska Republika news agency (SRNA) told Monday.

In an annual report “Risk analysis for 2018”, Frontex reports that out of 3 775 BiH citizens, 20 is considered to be a threat for public policy, internal security, public health or the international relations of one or more Member States of the EU.

The report states that other reasons for the refusal of entry for BiH citizens are no appropriate documentation justifying the purpose and conditions of stay (1262 persons), no sufficient means of subsistence in relation to the period and form of stay (866) and no valid travel documents (612).

The report says that in 2016, the number of total entry refusals for citizens of BiH was 4 082.

The document further states that during 2017, the so-called West Balkan migrant route recorded 12,178 illegal border crossings, a decline in the number of by 91 percent year-on-year.

BiH is ninth on the Frontex’s list of counties to whose nationals the entrance to EU countries is refused. On the first place is Ukraine with 37 117, the second is Russia with 36 342 refusals and third is Albania with 32 071 refusals.

In 2017, a total of 183 548 refusals of entry were reported along the external borders of the EU, a 15 percent decrease year-on-year. Regular passenger across the external borders will increase significantly in the coming years due to rising global mobility, the report predicts.

Frontex operational activities aim at strengthening border security through the coordination of Member States’ actions regarding the implementation of EU measures for the management of external borders.
