Specialist team of the Gynecology and Obstetrics Clinic of the University Clinical Centre in Tuzla, under the leadership of Professor Dzenita Ljuca, performed an entirely new method of treatment called LETZ conization, which includes intensive operations on cervix, on Tuesday, the 15th of December 2015.
Especially important is the application of this method because it removes tissue from which cancerous growths – tumors are usually developing, and allows women in the reproductive stage to give birth without any problems.
Prevention of cervical cancer is one of the key priorities that doctors on the Gynecology and Obstetrics Clinic of the UCC Tuzla are facing with, given the fact that this disease took a significant share of the total work with patients at this clinic in the recent years.
The procedure was carried out for many years, and it was often accompanied by complications, but with the application of new knowledge and technologies, this surgical procedure now only takes a few minutes, it is efficient and safe, there is no appearance of blood or tissue sewing, and after only two hours, patients can continue with their recovery at home.
It is not necessary to give general anesthesia to the patient. Serious problems used to occur for women in the reproductive cycle due to the frequent complications, such as narrowing of the cervical canal, which could cause complications during childbirth or premature opening of the cervix during pregnancy. It was often leading to miscarriage. According to prof. Dr. Dzenita Ljuca, the new method does not require use of surgical knife, but the whole process is conducted by radiowave machine with a loop, in just a few minutes, which is removing diseased tissue. Along the section, where the tissue is removed by the surgery, coagulation of tissue or closing of blood vessels takes place, so that the whole operation goes without blood and there is no need to sew the tissue, as it was done before.
The method LETZ conization, which was applied for the first time in this region, is a new step in a series of successful operations performed by doctors of UCC Tuzla in recent years. The operating team who performed LETZ conization with prof. Dr. Dzenita Ljuca were: prim. Dr. Adnan Babovic, Dr. Adnan Serak, instrumenting nurses Hajrija Karisik, Edina Bicakcic and Dzenana Mujabasic, anesthesiologist prim. Dr. Senida Keser and anesthetist Zuhret H. Beganovic.
