(Sarajevo, 20.04.2018)The Energy Market in Bosnia and Herzegovina was officially opened on January 1, 2015. Since then until today, over 500 companies have switched its electricity supplier or managed to negotiate better supply conditions with its existing supplier. Continuation of reforms in the electricity sector in Bosnia and Herzegovina should bring the same benefits to the household category, so that they also can choose a new supplier if they offer better price or supply terms.
«We will organize a panel for electricity and gas so that the energy sector key experts can define the measures that we expect the decision makers to implement in the next period with a view to harmonize them with the EU legislation and the Energy Community Requirements in order to create transparent, attractive and customer friendly sectors for electricity and gas, “ said Ognjen Markovic, USAID Energy Investment Activity Chief of Party.
Unlike the electricity sector that passed through significant progress and changes, the gas sector does not have an organized legislative framework that is harmonized with the EU Directives or Energy Community Regulations, with which BiH is obligated to comply. The lack of appropriate legislation affects the transparency of prices and security of supply with gas. Therefore, at the 4th Energy Summit that will take place on April 25-27 in Neum the process for soliciting solutions for dynamic and efficient reforms in this sector will be launched, along with the continuation of reforms in the electricity sector.
Between April 25 to 27, 2018, Neum will be the meeting place of the key BiH energy sector stakeholders, for the fourth time. The 4th Energy Summit is organized by the USAID Energy Investment Activity (EIA) project and the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) through the projects “Promotion of Renewable Energy in BiH” and “Promotion of Energy Efficiency in BiH,” under the auspices of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations, the State Electricity Regulatory Commission, the Federation Energy Regulatory Commission and the Republika Srpska Energy Regulatory Commission. Decision makers, the public as well as key experts and interested investors will discuss the most current pending topics in the sector that, with the right political decisions, can be the driver of economic development in BiH.
