Why are FBI Agents coming to BiH?

fbi-welcomeMinister of Security of BiH Dragan Mektić announced the arrival of special agents of FBI, investigators and prosecutors from the United States of America who should break the chain of corruption in BiH. Politicians perceive this announcement benevolently, given that BiH has been demonstrating its inability to deal with crime and corruption for 20 years already.

Mektić spoke with the U.S. authorities in the USA about how deeply rooted the corruption is in BiH society and what is the tie between politics and corruption.

Mektić stated that BiH clearly needs help, given that the country has been running in circles for two years now and that it is evident how there are certain problems in the functioning of judicial institutions in BiH.

Already next week the national institutions will launch talks with people who will come to BiH from the USA. Assistance of U.S. experts is expected in police agencies of BiH and the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH.

Chairman of the Joint Commission for Defense and Security of BiH Sifet Podžić said that BiH showed that its institutions do not know how to fight with criminal and corruption.

“I think every kind of help is welcome. I hope these people will be independent because we already see that there are all sorts of things happening when it comes to criminal and corruption, starting from the inclusion of politicians to other people from all segments of society,” said Podžić.

Member of the Joint Commission for Defense and Security of BiH Dušanka Majkić said that different countries have helped BiH before as well.

“I see this as one of the ways to help BiH, a country that has many issues with judiciary, to establish a judiciary system. I see no tendentious and intentional attempt to do something, but simply a way to see how the Americans do it,” said Majkić.
