Francesco Rivella, whom many called the “father of Nutella,” has passed away at the age of 97. This chemist worked for Ferrero and was part of the team that created the popular spread.

He began working for Ferrero in 1952 after graduating from the University of Turin. He was part of the team responsible for studying raw materials for the development of new products.

They combined, refined, and tested ingredients in search of perfect flavors. During his long career, Rivella became a senior manager at the company, working as the right-hand man of Michele Ferrero.

Journalist Gigi Padovani wrote in the book Mondo Nutella that the two traveled the world in search of sweets – not to copy their taste, but to make them even better.

After retiring, Rivella lived in Alba, where he dedicated himself to fruit growing.
