Last night, the demining team of the Federal Administration of Civil Protection conducted a “Quick Response” operation, in the area of the municipality of Donji Vakuf, during which two people were rescued from a marked minefield.

The Civil Protection Service of Donji Vakuf, through the Travnik Cantonal Administration of Civil Protection, informed FUCZ in the afternoon that two people had entered the mine-suspected area at the location Šipin Most – Turića Do in the municipality of Donji Vakuf.

In accordance with the procedure for “Quick response”, a rescue operation was immediately launched and a demining team FUCZ with ten members was sent to the scene.

After arriving on the field, telephone communication was established with persons who were in the mine-risk area in order to prevent their movement, which, due to the possibility of contact with an explosive device, would put them in additional danger.

After an on-site assessment, in accordance with standard operating procedures, demining of the safe path was started, and operational activities lasted from 6:15 p.m. to 7:40 p.m. when the persons were taken out of the minefield, to a safe area and handed over to the patrol of the Donji Vakuf Police Station.

During the formation of a safe path to the persons who were in the minefield, two anti-tank mines TMRP-6 and one anti-personnel mine PMR-2A were found and marked.

In the rescue of two people from the minefield, in addition to FUCZ deminers, members of the Donji Vakuf Police Station, the Service for Social Activities, General Administration and Civil Protection of Donji Vakuf and the BH MAC of RU Travnik participated.

The Federal Administration of Civil Protection also warns of the risk of finding unexploded ordnance (UXO) and mines, and draws attention to the necessity of proper and safe behavior in such situations.

It is important that citizens are aware that mines and unexploded ordnance are dangerous to people’s lives and health, regardless of the fact that 30 years have passed since their use during the war.

Found mines or other explosive devices must not be touched, but the found device should be reported to civil protection by phone number 121 or to the police by phone number 122.

It is useful to visibly mark the place where the device was observed, if possible take a photo and remember the location so that it can be shown to the competent explosive ordnance disposal team.

Attention is drawn to everyone who conducts daily activities outside populated areas and in nature not to move in areas they do not know so as not to wander into minefields, to respect and protect mine markings and never enter areas marked with mine markings.

“We inform the public that the free application “BH Mine Suspected Areas” has been available for a long time, which allows citizens, with the help of smartphones, to see their current location and its distance from suspected or confirmed areas at any time,” was announced from FUCZ.
