Germany donates specialized equipment to BiH Border Police

In order to ensure the security of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s (BiH) border, Germany provided specialized equipment worth 458,000 euros (523,646 U.S. dollars) on Tuesday here.

The agreement on equipment delivery was signed here by the German Ambassador to BiH Christiane Hohmann and Director of BiH Border Police (BiHBP) Zoran Galic, emphasizing that donation represents the best example of good bilateral cooperation.

It involves six all-terrain vehicles (ATV), 10 patrol boats, 3,000 NIK tests that measure the presence of drugs and 11 thermovision cameras.

Hohmann pointed out that this donation is the biggest one in the last two years, adding that it will help the members of BiHBP to monitor difficult-to-access areas and perform their duties on such territories.

She highlighted that the aim of the donation is to help the members to overcome all challenges and pressures they face during the increased inflow of migrants, adding that the institution manages successfully the situation despite the lack of police members at the border.

For his part, Galic said that Germany supports the institution since BiHBP establishment and until today, it donated more than 11 million KM (6.5 million U.S. dollars).

“This equipment is of a vast importance for our activities to be raised to the higher level. Germany is a true partner of BiHBP, supplying us with the equipment which we truly need,” Galic explained.

The cooperation of German and BiH police will continue, and in 2019 Germany will allocate funds for the procurement of equipment to be used on BiH airports, said the German embassy in BiH.
