The German government reacted to the fact that the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) did not grant the agrément to new German ambassador to BiH. This news very unpleasantly surprised official Berlin, which threatened that it could deny support to our country, among other things, in obtaining candidate status for membership in the European Union (EU).
Namely, the BiH embassy in Berlin informed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Sarajevo that they received an invitation to an urgent meeting from Susanna Schutz, Ambassador Plenipotentiary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany for Southeast Europe, which was answered on Wednesday by Hajra Delic, the chargé d’affaires of our embassy.
The reason for this call, as stated, is the vote in the BiH Presidency on granting the agrément to the future ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in BiH, H.E. To Thomas Fitschen.
“Schutz immediately said that the German side was unpleasantly surprised and disappointed by the information that the BiH Presidency did not give approval to H.E. Fitschen. They are asking the BiH Presidency to give clear explanations about the reasons and background of such a decision within the next 48 hours. She went on to say that this kind of behavior, that something like this should happen after 30 years of bilateral cooperation between the two countries, is unacceptable on the part of Germany,” reads the letter from our embassy in Berlin.
As mentioned, Schutz further added yesterday that, since the media in BiH had already published this information, an urgent explanation is requested from BiH side, so that the German side would also appear before its own public in these two days with a clear and concrete position.
Such a case, she said, has not been recorded in the practice of European countries, such a move has not been made towards the Russian Federation either.
“If they do not receive a clear explanation in a short period of time, the German side will reconsider its further behavior and support for BiH in achieving the proclaimed foreign policy priorities of BiH, and first of all joining the family of European states, i.e. obtaining candidate status. She emphasized once again that the news about such a step taken by the Presidency of BiH surprised them very unpleasantly and reiterated once again that they expect a clear agreement in the next 48 hours,“ it was stated yesterday.
To recall, Milorad Dodik voted against granting the agrément to the new German ambassador to BiH, while the other two members were in favor.
Nevertheless, it is interesting that the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs in this reaction demands the responsibility of the entire state, although it is known that only Dodik overturned the decision to grant the agrément to the new German ambassador to BiH. The question arises why the whole country should suffer because of the whim of one politician.
In other words, what should the state and its institutions do to persuade Dodik to approve the agrément. Perhaps the other two members of the Presidency should have agreed to Dodik’s requests not to support Ukraine, to accede to the Open Balkans without discussion, or to give permission to Gazprom to build a gas connection from Serbia to the Republika Srpska (RS), so that perhaps Dodik would have agreed to the agrément?, Klix.ba reports.
