Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh announced on Tuesday that the Palestinian organization is getting closer to “concluding a ceasefire agreement” in the Gaza Strip.

“The organization (Hamas) has given its answer to the brothers from Qatar and the mediators. We are getting closer to a ceasefire agreement,” Haniyeh, who lives in Qatar, posted a short message on Telegram.

The war between Israel and the Islamic extremist Hamas, which rules Gaza, began on October 7 when Palestinian extremists breached the border fence and entered southern Israel, killing more than 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and taking around 240 hostages.

Israel then vowed to destroy Hamas and is constantly bombing Gaza, a small, densely populated Palestinian enclave, and launched a ground offensive on October 27.

Since then, 13,300 Palestinians have died in Gaza, including more than 5,600 children and 3,550 women, according to a statement issued by the Hamas government last night. About 31,000 people were wounded.
