Interpol has rejected the appeal of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina for not issuing an arrest warrant for the President of Republika Srpska Milorad Dodik and the President of the National Assembly of Republika Srpska Nenad Stevandić.
In mid-April, the Court of BiH sent an appeal to the General Secretariat of Interpol in Lyon for rejecting the request to issue an Interpol red arrest warrant for Milorad Dodik and Nenad Stevandić. Interpol made the decision to reject the request after the Court of BiH issued an order on 27 March to issue an international arrest warrant for Dodik and Stevandić. The President of Republika Srpska was visiting Israel at the time.
Previously, the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH had sent the Court of BiH a proposal to issue an international arrest warrant for the duo due to their travel outside the territory of BiH.
Dodik then thanked Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán for appealing the request of the Court of BiH.
On 26 February, the Court of BiH sentenced Milorad Dodik to one year in prison and a six-year ban from holding the office of President for disobeying the High Representative’s decisions.
The ruling coalition in the RS National Assembly then adopted laws banning the activities of the State Court and Prosecutor’s Office, the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council of BiH, and the State Investigation and Protection Agency (SIPA) in the territory of that entity.
The Constitutional Court of BiH invalidated these laws, and the BiH Prosecutor’s Office launched an investigation against Dodik and other leaders of the RS entity for the criminal offense of “attack on the constitutional order”.
After they refused to respond to a summons for questioning, the BiH Prosecutor’s Office also ordered the detention of Dodik, RS Prime Minister Radovan Višković, and RS National Assembly President Nenad Stevandić, AA writes.
