Last Phase of Renovation of Vijećnica

vijecnicaThe fourth and last phase of the restoration of Vijećnica, one of the most representative and beautiful buildings in Sarajevo, is in full swing, and the walls of this architectural beauty is bringing back its old façade.

According to the head of the building site Hamed Osmanković, this phase of works will cost around five million Euros. This phase includes all interior work, from laying a parquet to ceramic floors. Osmanković said that the paining is the most demanding work. Around 30 people are engaged in this work.

‘’This is a job that requires concentration, optimal time conditions and temperature, and has to be done slowly and carefully. For now, everything is fine. We are trying to close all the areas by winter so we can heat the rooms’’, added Osmanković.

vijecnica 2Regarding the color and shades used, Osmanković said that they are trying their best to make it look like the original.

‘’Various documents were requested and something was in the plans for the building. We took old postcards, photographs, TV footage and some documents arrived from abroad. Also, wherever old parts of the façade were preserved, we left them like that’’, said Osmanković.

Until now, around 11 million Euros have been invested for the restoration of Vijećnica, mostly from donations from several European countries and cities. The opening is planned in May next year and will be accompanied by a concert by the Vienna Philharmonic.
