Lebanon has filed 22 complaints with the United Nations (UN) about Israeli attacks and violations since October last year, the country’s foreign ministry said on Wednesday.
The ministry’s announcement states that the complaints documented “that Israel violates Resolution 1701 of the UN Security Council.”
The ministry called on the UN Security Council to condemn the Israeli attacks and “to curb Israel’s violation of Lebanese sovereignty.”
Adopted on August 11, 2006, Resolution 1701 calls for a complete cessation of hostilities between Lebanon and Israel.
Calls on Israel to withdraw behind the Blue Line and disarm the region between the Blue Line and the Litani River in Lebanon and allow only the Lebanese Army and the UN Interim Force in Lebanon to possess weapons and military equipment in the area.
Tensions flared along the border between Lebanon and Israel amid occasional exchanges of fire between Israeli forces and Hezbollah, in the deadliest clashes since the two sides went to war in 2006.
The border escalation comes amid an Israeli military offensive on the Gaza Strip that has killed nearly 32,500 Palestinians following an October 7, 2023, attack by Hamas.
More than 300 people are estimated to have been killed in Lebanon, including at least 246 Hezbollah fighters. Tel Aviv claims that nearly 20 Israelis were killed in the clashes.
