Mayor: We have Five Rivers that flow for nothing, and no one benefits from them

Sipovo could soon become a place with two new hydroelectric power plants, given that their construction is planned on the rivers Janj and Pliva. The mayor of that municipality, Milan Kovac, made a bizarre statement, saying that the energy potential must be used, and the rivers should not flow idly.

The two rivers that flow through the municipality of Sipovo, Janj, and Pliva, could soon become the site of the construction of a new hydroelectric power plant that would function as part of ‘Elektroprivreda Republike Srpske’ (Elektroprivreda RS).

The goal is to protect these rivers from private builders by establishing a public hydroelectric power plant company on Pliva and Janj, and then by eventually building two hydroelectric power plants.

This issue was discussed at a recent meeting between the Minister of Industry, Mining, and Energy of the RS, Petar Djokic, and the management of the municipality of Sipovo.

”On that occasion, it was stated that the municipality of Sipovo has a significant unused hydropower potential and that it is necessary to look into the possibilities of establishing a company that would be the bearer of the implementation of hydropower projects on the Pliva and Janj rivers in the coming period,” it was confirmed by the relevant ministry.

The Mayor of Sipovo Municipality, Milan Kovac, confirmed this information, but also that this issue was not raised all at once, but the point is to use the hydropower potential in view of the impending crisis.

Kovac stated that the Government of the RS has said that it will establish a public hydroelectric power plant company on Janj and Pliva, which would avoid the rush of mini hydroelectric power plants coming from private entrepreneurs.

”He who has energy will have everything. We have five rivers in Sipovo. Those five rivers flow for nothing and no one benefits from them,” Kovac stated.

Also, he believes that hydro-construction can only cause unfounded indignation among citizens because “the rivers will stay and they will not go anywhere.”, Klix.ba writes.
