Meteorologist: This is a Warning for all of us; Central Europe is not far from us

“The situation is being monitored daily. Currently, there are no risks similar to those in Central Europe. The rains we expect in the coming days are not worrisome,” said Bakir Krajinovic in an interview, a meteorologist from the Federal Hydrometeorological Institute, and added that this is “a warning and a lesson we must learn” because Central Europe “is not far from us.”

How do meteorologists explain Cyclone Boris, which caused chaos in parts of Europe?

“Regarding the weather conditions that caused these catastrophic floods, a cyclone remained stationary over Central Europe for an extended period, bringing huge amounts of precipitation. Under such circumstances, no country can respond to extreme rainfall like the one that occurred. The consequences are evident in the photographs. This is a warning and a lesson for all of us. Central Europe is not far from us. A similar situation happened in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) in 2014,” Krajinovic explained.

How much did the prolonged drought contribute to this situation?

“In a way, the excessive heat during the summer months led to the accumulation of energy that had to manifest somewhere, but it is unlikely to have directly influenced the cyclone. A cold air mass moved into the area and remained, resulting in such large amounts of precipitation. No one can defend against 100 liters per square meter falling in 24 hours. Even the best and most developed countries, like Austria and the Czech Republic, which have been fighting floods for centuries, could not cope,” he said.

Should we fear river levels rising in the coming period? The authorities assure that fear of floods is unnecessary, although the water levels of some rivers are slightly rising.

“The situation is being monitored daily. Currently, there are no risks similar to those in Central Europe. The rains we expect in the coming days are not worrisome. The intensity and quantity of those precipitations are not capable of producing similar floods,” Krajinovic stated.

When can we expect stabilization?

“Regarding the atmosphere, it will not be completely stable until the end of the month. From Wednesday onwards, we can expect more frequent sunny intervals, but an umbrella should always be with us as there is a possibility of rain. Towards the end of September, temperatures will rise to a maximum of 25 degrees Celsius,” Krajinovic concluded, N1 writes.
